PoCoMo Wheelchair Tennis Classic

JULY 16-18, 2010

Sponsored by PoCoMo Youth Services Society in partnership withthe city of Coquitlam, Coquitlam Tennis Club, BC Wheelchair Sports, Tennis Canada and many other community groups, the tournament is known for being the ONLY youth organized and run tennis tournament on the International Tour. This is the 15th year.

This tournament has quickly becoming popular Internationally attracting players from from North America, Asia, and Europe. PoCoMo Youth Services Society is a community organization dedicated to the development of innovative programs and providing opportunities for youth to contribute to community, learn life, job and leadership skills. The PoCoMo Wheelchair Tennis Classic is one of those programs.

Tournament Location:

The tournament is located at the Coquitlam Tennis Club in Coquitlam British Columbia, a 20 minute drive from Vancouver. Coquitlam is one of three cities, Port Coquitlam, Coquitlam and Port Moody, know as the "Tri-Cities". Coquitlam is the largest of the three cities and is nestled up against beautiful Burke Mountain. The courts are next to Lafarge Lake, youth skate park, volleyball courts, indoor waterslides and pool, 2 blocks from Coquitlam Center shopping mall, and 2 miles from the tournament hotel. Tournament Hotel:

For over 10 years, the Tournament Hotel is the PoCo Inn and Suites has been the tournament hotel. Manager Len Bergquist has welcomed our players with open arms, a smile on his face, and eager to make yoru stay enjoyable. Youth Organized:

The tournament is organized and run by the PoCoM o Youth Action team and youth from the surrounding community. It is amazing that each year we get an amazing number of youth interested in volunteering and we even end up turning away youth. We have a core group of about 6-8 youth who are the organizing team and anywhere from 15-25 youth volunteering on the weekend. The tournament mentor/director is Jerome Bouvier, the executive director of PoCoMo.
